Ex-Mossad director opines against an immediate attack on Iran

Meir Dagan, ex-Mossad director believes that Israel should consider more options at the moment apart from an open strike on Iran, which is on the verge of becoming a nuclear power.

Iran has stated a number of times that its nuclear program is for civil purposes and has no intention for any kind of an aggression. This is the reason why Iran has also signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

However, this is also a fact that Iran does not accept the legality of Israel’s existence and the President, Mahmud Ahmedinejad has made it clear a number of times that Iran vows to diminish Israel from the world map.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in its report in 2011 revealed that Iran is enriching Uranium at a level which is below the international standards and it can become a nuclear power any time.

This has led to economic sanctions on Iran and the pro-Israel lobby in international politics is discouraging all the concerned countries to avoid any kind of ties with Iran. The US and Israel has openly threatened Iran of a strike.

However, ex-director of Mossad believes that Israel should focus on a regime change in Iran at the moment and half of the problems will be solved if there is a change of government in Iran and the world powers must look to get rid of Mahmud Ahmedinejad and
company.

Dagan expressed, "An attack on Iran before you are exploring all other approaches is not the right way how to do it. It’s our duty to help anyone who likes to present an open opposition against their regime in Iran. The Iranian regime is maybe not exactly
rational, based on what I call Western thinking, but no doubt they are considering all the implications of their actions.”

On the other side of the coin, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that Israel is not ready to accept Iran as a nuclear power.

"We won’t accept a situation where Iran has nuclear weapons, because we face an existential threat,” the Prime Minister said.

While talking about the possibility of an attack on Iran, Netanyahu revealed, "Is not a matter of days or weeks, but it’s also not a matter of years.”
