A Thousand Words: one of the worst rated movies ever

Brian Robbins’ A Thousand Words is a comedy-drama flick which was released I in theatres on March 9th, 2012. It stars Eddie Murphy, Kerry Washington, Cliff Curtis, Clark Duke and Allison Janey.

The $40 million budgeted movie follows Jack McCall (starred by Murphy), who is a fast-talking literary agent, sets his sight on New Age guru Dr. Sinja (Curtis) for his own selfish reasons.  However, Dr. Sinja finds out and cursed him with a supernatural
Bodhi tree in his backyard. The mysterious tree has 1000 leaves and every word from McCall’s mouth leads a leaf to drop, consequently when the last leaf falls, his life will end. He has to find a way to communicate with other or he will perish from the world.

The 91-minute movie received mainly negative and poor reviews. 

Review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, report that all of the 45 critics gave it negative reviews. The site general consensus states, “Dated jokes (A Thousand Words was shot in 2008) and removing Eddie Murphy’s voice — his greatest comedic asset — dooms
this painful mess from the start.”

Roger Moore of the Dallas Morning News gave it a 1.5 out of 4 rating and declared, “Murphy, without the words to go along with his bug-eyed double-takes and the mugging, is lost here…He’s never been a silent comic, and never will be.”

Stephan Whitty, a top film critic of Newark Star-Ledger, gave the flick a rotten rating of two out of four and said, “What you don’t have is a funny movie.”

Film.com’s William Goss was quoted, “Follows directly in the footsteps of Bruce Almighty, Click, Liar Liar, Groundhog Day and any other post-Freaky Friday high-concept redemption story that inevitably crossed Tim Allen and Adam Sandler’s desks at some point.”

However, IMDB was kinder to the movie as it gave it a rating of 4.2 out of 10 based on its 570 users. 

Another review aggregator site, Meta Critic awarded the movie a score of 26 out of 100 based on 18 reviews.

Overall, A Thousand Words can be a mean of spending time with your friends and family but you would not want to see it again.
