Toshiba Excite 10 (2012): Full Review – Part 1

Toshiba released a new tablet, Toshiba Excite 10, within a two-month period of the release of Excite 10 LE. Though the new slate is an upgrade to LE in many respects, the reason for a rapid throw of tablets from the Japanese electronics giants is unfathomable.

As the name suggests, the new tablet sports a 10-inch LED backlit screen. The structure of the device is similar to the LE but the software and hardware upgrades are welcome. The new tablet is a tad heavier and thicker but that is only noticeable if you want to crack open a Vernier calliper.

Though at first look, the new tablet looks stunning but there are some design and specification flaws, in addition to the price.

However, the most amazing thing and the major selling point of the new Excite 10 is its storage capacity. The built-in storage is knotted at 64 GB, starting at 16 GB. However, it supports flash memory in the form of an SD card can hold up to 128 GB of data.

The screen is more sensitive to touch and uses IPS panel for brighter and more natural colours but the LED back light bleeds out, which is apparent in black frames.

Design

The most important thing about a tablet is its design as mobile devices sell on how much they are attractive and how easy are they to handle on the go.

This new device boasts a grippier structure on the top of a very attractive design. The backside of the tablet is textured to give a firm grip while reading a book or even browsing the web. However, its weight is a hurdle when compared to its two-month older brother, and even the competition in the market.
