Toshiba Excite 10 (2012): Full Review – Part 2

At 10.3 inches in height and 7.1 inches in width, the device comes at par with the other competition. However, part that matters the most is always the depth and weight. Unfortunately, at 0.35 inches deep, it is fatter than some of the flagship tablets in the market and at 1.28 pounds in weight, it is heavier as well.

When held in landscape, the right side of device has a micro-USB, micro-HDMI ports and SD card tray. The opposite side has a power ON/OFF button, screen rotation locker and a volume rocker. The bottom spine has two speakers situated at far corners and a data cable jack that also serves as the dock connector.

Right in the middle of the top bezel is a 2-mega pixel camera capable of capturing VGA quality video for chatting purposes. The flip side houses a 5-mega pixel snapper at the right-top corner. Accompanying the primary camera is the LED flash support on the immediate left.

The top bezel also houses a microphone slit for audio input in case of chatting.

The screen is LED backlit with IPS technology to reproduce more vibrant and natural colours. The display has a 1280×800-pixel resolution that is standard for 10-inch tablets. It can also be found in many 11-, 12- and 13-inch laptops. Though it does not match the benchmark of the new iPad from Apple but it certainly has a good quality display.

Features and Operating system

The new Excite 10 comes preinstalled with Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Google mobile operating system Android. Though Toshiba does not offer any customized user interface like Samsung or HTC, the stock UI from Android is aptly augmented by the screen.
