Increasing miseries of Pakistani people…

The recent strike-call given by All Pakistan CNG Association, in which filling stations too joined the chorus, added woes to common people, making their lives more miserable.

The closure of petrol pumps and gas stations made it impossible for daily-wage workers, who are already pressed by price hike and energy crisis, to meet their both ends.

The ruling lot of the country appears to be least bothered over the sufferings of the masses, as everyday there are reports of target killing, kidnapping for ransom, murders, gang rapes, robberies and suicide bombings.

The continued closure of gas stations for the past five days brought the life of a common person to a standstill.

In order to further tight the grip, the owners of the petrol pumps along with oil tankers also joined the strike, seeking withdrawal of additional levies that made CNG even costlier than petroleum products.

The million dollar question is that why is the government hell bent to destroy CNG industry in which billions of rupees have been invested. People were getting comparatively cheap fuel as compared to expensive petroleum products.

One theory is that the government wants to destroy the CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) sector to promote LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as an alternative fuel. This plan is only formed up to facilitate vested interests of few people who probably want to earn a little more from LNG.

Another theory being circulated in the public circles is that CNG motorists would be forced to switch back to petroleum products in order to smooth supply of gas to domestic consumers, power plants and industries.

According to the fresh hike in the CNG prices, this sector will be charged four to seven times more than power plants and general industry. However, the government is seeking further taxes on it to provide cheaper energy resources to industrialist and power plants.

No one will oppose the idea that the industrial sector gets uninterrupted supply of energy. However, the point is that the CNG sector should not be made a target for vested interests of few people.

People, who are already passing their lives in very difficult conditions, would not be able to bear more burdens. Thence, the government must take note of the situation and address genuine problems of the masses.
