Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Heroine’ angers Dubai residents

The trailer of Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Heroine’, which has been directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, infuriated the residents of Dubai since there is a dialogue in the movie which degrades Bollywood actresses who visit the city.

The trailer of the movie which was recently released shows Kareena taking a dig at Dubai in a media conference.

“You people should be writing scripts. If a heroine buys a car, it’s given to her by a businessman, if she goes to LA, she’s getting plastic surgery done and, God forbid, if she goes to Dubai, you people make her a rate card,” Gulf News quoted her as saying in the movie.

After watching the trailer, a strong reaction came from the residents of Dubai because they think the suggestion that Bollywood actresses who visit Dubai end up as call girls with price tags was sickening.

Kritika Rawat, who is a popular radio jockey, insisted that many Bollywood stars have their residence in Dubai and the filmmaker should have thought about it before writing the dialogues. He said India has destroyed Dubai’s image in front of the world.

“This is terrible. Bollywood has once again tarnished the image of Dubai by typecasting it as the hub of illegal and immoral activities,” Rawat said.

“Let’s not forget that Dubai is home to a number of Bollywood stars. Dubai stands for progress and development and has made a huge imprint on the world map.

“To use its name is such a callous manner shows the ignorance of the filmmaker and is just not acceptable,” she said.

A Dubai-based TV personality Uma Ghosh Deshpande also reacted strongly over the movie and said that now Indian filmmakers should stop associating Dubai with the underworld and prostitution.

Well, all said and done, let’s see how Kareena Kapoor or Madhur Bhandarkar respond to all this.

Heroine, which is scheduled to hit the cinemas on September 21, is one of the most eagerly awaited films of this year since its trailer on Youtube has crossed over 2 million hits.
