In order to gear up the political temperature, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would form the next government in Punjab and a party worker would be next chief minister of the province.

It is vital to mention here that the president is on a two-day visit to Lahore and will hold meetings to plan strategy for the upcoming general polls.

While speaking to the media persons, he said that the present government would complete its tenure, adding that he had made the country a profitable place.

Commenting about democracy in Pakistan, he said that he had transferred his powers to the parliament with his own freewill.

He observed, “The government stands by the people in every time of test and they would not leave the flood affected people alone in the hour of need”.

The president further said that the fire incidents in factories were a major tragedy, offering condolence with the bereaved families.

In another occasion, he said the ruling PPP government has embarked upon a policy of trade liberalization with India and other countries in the region as part of liberal investment policy regime.

The president termed it a major policy shift, saying that this shift was driven by the business sectors on both the countries. He also expressed the hope that it will benefit all besides contributing to the region’s economies.

Emphasizing the need for continuity of economic policies, President Zardari called upon the business community to take ownership of the policies as the absence of continuity of economic policies was a serious problem for the country’s development.

He noted, “It is the business community which should defend the economic policies even if governments change. I am happy to say that last week I gave approval to a bill that will do exactly the same”.

He was of the opinion that no government will now be able to withdraw the incentives without parliamentary debate and discussion.

He termed it a landmark development, saying that the government has achieved political consensus on a number of issues in the best interests of the country.
