PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf says not scared threats from Shiv Sena

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf on Thursday that the board was not scared of threats from Shiv Sena, asking party head Bal Thackeray to renounce extremism and move forward with positive thinking.

While speaking to the media, he said that the Indian government had given clearance to the Pakistan cricket team and that both the countries will have to look for each other’s benefits.

He noted, “The PCB was holding talks with foreign cricket boards in order to revive international cricket in Pakistan.”

Refusing to mention any country that was planning to play in Pakistan, the PCB chief said the forces planning against it will become active.

Shiv Sena threats may have failed to convince the India cricket board to shun the hugely-anticipated tour in December but it may put the return of Pakistan cricketers in the billion-dollar Indian Premier League (IPL) in jeopardy.

The improving ties between the Pakistan and India cricket boards, which resulted in the confirmation of a short series between the archrivals in December, also made the possibility of Pakistan players featuring in the IPL ‘higher than ever’. The last time Pakistan cricketers took part in the IPL was in 2008.

Earlier, Shiv Sena had asked Sena cadres to prevent the forthcoming series starting in Bangalore.

Bal Thackeray slammed home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, saying, “If you have even an iota of shame then you would withdraw this remark of yours, or else the patriotic people of this country will not allow the matches to take place.”

He added that Shinde’s statement to forget the Mumbai terror attack was really unfortunate. “How can we so easily forget the blood bath that happened in CST because of Pakistani terrorists? How can we forget the wounds that Pakistan has given us?” questioned Thackeray.

However, the Indian government ensured three-tier security to the Pakistan cricket team during the matches and their practice in stadiums.
