MS Dhoni wants to keep toss out of equation

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that he wants turning tracks in the ongoing four-match Test series against England to keep toss out of the equation. Unfazed by criticism over his demand for the spin tracks, the skipper insisted that tracks which spin from the very first ball cut down role of the toss.

“How should it be then? I was just trying to take the toss out of the equation…I was doing the good part,” said Dhoni on the eve of the India-England second start.

“Different people have different opinions. People talk about different challenges. You have seen the ball swinging in New Zealand and England and bouncing in Australia. South Africa has different kind of wickets. May be that’s the reason they don’t want the ball to turn,” he added.

Team India won the first Test comprehensively. The Poms showed some fight in the second innings, but failed to stop the home side from cruising to a comfortable 9-wicket triumph. Despite winning the first match, Dhoni expressed dissatisfaction over the Ahmedabad pitch.

Talking about the second game, the wicket-keeper batsman hoped that the Mumbai wicket would help fast bowlers from both sides. Ahead of the second game, he uttered:

“It looks good. As is always the case I would like to review decision delaying it after five days. It does not turn I can come and criticise once again, but it looks like a good wicket to start with.”

“This time of the year the climate is generally cooler, but it’s still hot out here. It is humid. The fast bowlers will get a bit of swing and as the game progresses, the wicket may become dry. If the ball is maintained well, the fast bowlers may get to reverse it.”

Although the Indian spinners picked up most of the wickets in the opening Test, Dhoni believes that the role of the quicks was also impressive. Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav are likely to miss the second game because of fitness issues, and Dhoni stated that the pace duo provided crucial breakthroughs to the side in the first game.
