Israel attacks 160 targets in Gaza and Hamas launches rockets at Tel Aviv

A rocket fired by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip has reached Zikron Yaakov, a town 115 miles from the strip. Tel Aviv has also come under attack on Wednesday with at least five M75 rockets, which have been intercepted in the vicinity of the city, according to Army Radio quoted by France Presse. Iron Dome, Israel anti-missile system, has neutralized all five. Jerusalem and other cities have been the target of long-range rockets fired from the Palestinian Gaza by Hamas militias, but have not caused fatalities.

Israel continued during Wednesday morning’s bombing of the Palestinian territory, where 1.8 million people live. The military launched 160 attacks on rocket launchers, weapons depots ten smuggling tunnels and ten checkpoints and control.

Since the start of the offensive on Tuesday, 27 people have died in Gaza, including 18 civilians, five of which were children, according to sources from the Palestinian emergency services for Reuters. About 230 people have been injured.

Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s government on Tuesday authorized the deployment of up to 40,000 new reservists, 1,500 soldiers already deployed on the border would be added – to the third large-scale military operation against Gaza since 2007 Hamas took control of this small territory of 360 square kilometers and its Executive. According to Israeli spokesmen, Hamas has ” dozens ” of long-range missiles.

On Tuesday night, three rockets fired from Gaza reached the vicinity of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Hadera, causing considerable alarm. Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered his troops to “be prepared ” for a possible ground invasion of Gaza, which would be the first since late 2008. According to the Army, the attacks were aimed at 120 rocketĀ  positions 10 command posts and tunnels used by Hamas Islamists. A mortar attack paralyzed the mid-morning and very little traffic of people between Gaza and Israel.

Israeli media reported the morning of an attack in the town of Beit Hanoun, north-west of the Strip, in which six people, including a prominent activist of the Islamic Jihad and several members of his family were killed.

The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, called for the “immediate suspension of attacks on Gaza.” The Israeli defense minister, Moshe Yaalon warned however that the military operation ” will not end in a matter of days.” The Israel Defense Forces highlighted two infantry brigades in the vicinity of the strip. Netanyahu ordered ” a long, continuous and powerful operation ” in Gaza. He acknowledged that the transaction ” could be prolonged ” time, yet undetermined. He argues that it is directed against Hamas and will serve to stop the rocket fire against its territory.

Jordan, which signed a peace treaty with Israel, “condemns the military aggression launched by Israel in the Gaza Strip ” and called for an immediate halt. Mohamed Momani, a government spokesman has warned of “the consequences of this barbaric aggression” on Wednesday.
