Punjab govt to hold essay writing competition on dengue

The government of Punjab on Wednesday announced to conduct an essay writing and speech competition among the students of the province on dengue. The students writing the best articles and essays on the topic will be encouraged and will get prize money as
well. 

The basic purpose behind holding such kind of competitions is to formulate proposals for promoting awareness in the general public, especially in students, regarding this fatal disease and to find out ways to eradicate this menace from the province.

This was decided at a meeting of emergency committee for dengue to review measures for eradication of dengue virus and provision of treatment facilities to dengue patients in hospitals. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif. 

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that the government of Punjab has taken solid measures to control the epidemic disease. He said that besides taking immediate steps to overcome the menace, they have formulated a long term policy as well. The Chief
Minister told the media reporters that doctors and nurses from various Lahore hospitals were being sent to Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand for training in the treatment of dengue virus.

In the meanwhile the dengue death toll in the province has reached 300. Three more patients succumbed to the deadly virus in Lahore on Wednesday. The victims included 60-year-old Naseen Bibi of Township, 20-year-old Neelam of Qila Gujjar Singh, and 50-year-old
Sharifan Bibi of Faizabad. Naseen Bibi died in the Ittefaq Hospital while the other two died in the Mayo Hospital.

The Provincial capital, which is also known as the heart of Pakistan, remained the major victim of this fatal disease. According to a report, so far 19,845 dengue patients had been cured and discharged from different hospitals in Punjab. Out of these 19,845
dengue affectees 16,812 were from various hospitals of Lahore.

The CM said that, in addition to an effective public awareness campaign regarding the fatal disease, special seminars were also being arranged by the Punjab government in various educational institutions of the province, especially in Lahore.
