Beaconhouse School System humiliates Bahria University in a football exhibition match

Beaconhouse School System played host to the Bahria University Islamabad’s football team this Friday, November 04, 2011. The match was played in the football ground of the H/8 campus, or Margalla campus as it is more commonly known, of the Beaconhouse School
System. Beaconhouse were able to dominate the visitors and won the match 3-0.

To the dismay of the visitors the match was hardly competitive, except for the initial 10 to 15 minutes of the game. As the match was played on their home turf, Beaconhouse had all the support they required from the people who had decided to show up and
watch the match. Almost each and every person in the audience was a Beaconite and showed support for the home side.

Before one a conclusion can be drawn from the match, there is much that has to be reviewed and discussed.

Firstly, and very sadly, the conditions that the match took place in were quite deplorable. The ground had more mud than it had grass. The lack of grass on the field would make ball control excessively difficult for anyone playing in the ground for the first
time. Hence it was fairly obvious that the visitors needed some time to settle on this ground, however in Bahria’s case, they never managed to settle.

Apart from the condition of the pitch, another colossal factor in the outcome of the match was the referee.  Bahrians would call him biased, Beaconites would call him righteous, but the third person would just summarize that he just could not see.

The fact that the refereeing was below standard meant that the match could not be of the caliber it was expected to be.

The match started with both teams trying to settle with the ball. Bahria did create a few early chances but they failed to find the net. The Beaconites who had been used to playing in these conditions settled rather easily.

They started to pass the ball around and a few very scintillating moves were created. They went ahead around the 20th minute mark and doubled their lead 6 minutes later. Being under pressure and with unusually difficult conditions, the Bahrians
could feel the match drift away from their grasp.

The first half came to an end with the score of 2-0 to the home side. The second half proceeded in the same fashion, however the Beaconites found it easier to assert their dominance over the Bahrians in the second half.

It can fairly be concluded that the second half was all about the home team. The Beaconites managed to scored their 3rd around the 80th minute, by which time the Bahrians had realized that they had no chance of coming back into the
team.

Although they were disappointed by the result, the Bahria University’s football team heartily congratulated the winning side and stated that they would gladly look forward to a re-match.

An ex-Beaconite in the Bahria team, Fouad Ashraf had this to say about the match:

“The conditions today were tragically unacceptable. I am an ex-Beaconite myself and I used to play here, I wonder what they have done to this ground. The match was entirely one-sided and you can thank the referee for that. I would recommend a re-match and
1 kg carrots for the referee.”

Team Bahria’s captain was quoted as saying:

“They were clearly the better side today, they deserved to win. However, the playing conditions did not suite us at all and we would look forward to a re-match in conditions which suite both the teams.”
