Shahbaz Shareef seeks crackdown against kite flyers

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday ordered the district governments and law enforcement authorities to launch crackdown against kites flyers and people associated with business of Kite selling.

CM’s directions have come in the aftermath of sad incident of death of a 25-year-old youth, Mohamad Asif, who was killed after chemical string used for kite flying cut his throat, at Multan Road near Mandi stop locality of Sabzazar on Wednesday. The Chief
Minister was addressing a meeting of the administration officials in the provincial capital, Lahore.

Shahbaz Sharif also suspended the DSP, SHO and TMO of Sabzazar for negligence towards their duties. He also warned that the local government would be held responsible if such an incident took place again. He stressed that others would also meet the same
fate if they showed any careless in fulfilling responsibilities. The CM said that kite flying was nothing but threat to public lives and wastage of money.

It’s worth mentioning that the deceased was the only bread earner of the family. The incident happened during the Eid holidays when Kite flying was banned in the province. Shahbaz said that the provincial government had banned kite flying to protect the
lives of public and their properties but some elements inside the government extend support for the lethal activity and this is the reason that the government is facing difficulties in nipping out the menace from the province in nipping out the menace from
the province.

He further added that kite flying and related business would not be tolerated in any case and the violaters of the rule would be dealt with iron fist.

He also made it clear that in case of any such incident in future, the local government and law enforcement authorities would be held responsible. He also urged to make the local committees functional to point out the kite flyers and elements involved in
its illegal business.

The CM also sought a detailed inquiry and ordered the district government for presenting him the report of Sabzazar incident.
