Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich: A bold step from Samsung and Google – Part 1

Galaxy, Samsung and Google’s joint venture, unleashed the newest smartphone, Galaxy Nexus, earlier this month. This post will breakdown the hardware and software of the handheld for a thorough review.

The new instalment to the Nexus family has wiped out the suffix, Prime but it has some mesmerizing features. This new phone has Google’s latest operating system, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, also known as Android 4.0.

Where the new OS has evolved in certain areas, it has incorporated a steep learning curve that will require a lot of knowledge to get used to the shortcuts and different new gestures. There are only two ways to get used to the new additions; one to explore
them and practice to make them a catchphrase, or forget about them and use the phone the normal way.

The hard ware has a powerful dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz supported by 1 GB of RAM. Although these specs are latest in the market but still do not fall in the category of trend making hardware.

The screen is curved and offers a flamboyant look to the handset but most of its good looks come from the software because of new skins.

Behind the phone is a five megapixel camera that is capable of capturing 720p video. However, the camera is a little low-tech for a flagship phone from both Samsung and Google. The snapper does not fall far from the grid either. Although it has 16m colour
palette, it still washes out some colourful details that other counterparts manage to deliver.

Moreover, cover of the phone disappoints a little. Though it has a hyperskin and a very solid feel to it but for a premium phone it still lags behind.

The 4.65-inch screen is AMOLED with high density of pixels and can play 1080p videos but still the resolution is merely at par with counterparts in the market. On the positive side, the sound quality is an upgrade to the predecessor, Nexus Prime.
