Food Street Lahore returns

The wait is finally over as the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has finally decided to reveal the much awaited Food Street Lahore. The street will be inaugurated on Saturday, 21st of January 2012.

After almost two years of the unofficial closure of the Gawalmandi Food Street, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif is launching the ‘Fort Road Food Street’ on one of Lahore’s most famous and historically significant roads, Fort Road Lahore.

Fort Road is quite a popular tourist spot in the Old Walled City with some of the most important historical buildings, restaurants and antique shops situated on it.

South Asia’s second largest and world’s fifth largest Mosque, Badshahi Mosque also adds up to the beauty of the Fort Road Lahore. Other places that attract the tourists in the area include Cuckoo’s Den, Andaaz Resturant, Minar-e-Pakistan and the Lahore Fort.

Lahore is famous for its unique Punjabi food across the world and the complete variety of the food will be available at the Food Street. Some of the best cooks from across the city will present their specialty dishes to make it a dream zone for the food
lovers.

It is believed that the street will be equipped with the latest solar panels which will save between 50,000-10,000 watts of energy. A wise step by the management considering the fact that nation is already suffering from electricity crisis.

Horse Carriages driven by the locals will take the tourists to the entrance gate. The CM has also solved one of the biggest worries by providing ample parking place at the edge of the mosque.

It has been reported that a total number of nine streets will be inaugurated across the city in the coming months. Other proposed locations are Samanabad, Ravi Town, Shalimar Town, Wahga, Gulberg, Allama Iqbal Town, Data Gunj Baksh Town, Nishtar Town and
Aziz Bhatti Town.

Mansura Joiya Balli who lives near the Fort Road Lahore is excited about the idea. She believes, “It is a brave move taken by Mr. Shareef and it will attract a lot of tourists from across the country. We always wanted to hang out with the family and there
are not many family restaurants around the area”.

It is expected that a maximum number of families from across the city will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Food Street Lahore today.

people are killing them self because of poverty and low income and ELITE CLASS MAKING MONEY from opening such LAVISH AND EXPENSIVE streets.i can bet organisers would have made millions out of it.PLEASE THINK OF POOR PEOPLE WHO ARE IN MAJORITY AND DONT HAVE BASIC FOOD.

@ Khwaja ahsan- Poverty is another issue. And in Pakistan, one is also poor because he does not want to work but instead begs while he can work hard and make money.
Its up to a person how he wants to spend his/her money. A person can eat out, enjoy culture and historical places while he also gives to charities and the poor.
Lavish and expensive? They used solar panels which saves up loads of energy. Which is a good step.
