Mahesh Bhatt: There is abundant talent in Pakistan crying to be discovered

The legendary Indian director, Mahesh Bhatt, has insisted there are a lot of talented artists across the border who are dying to get a chance to prove them.

In Pakistan, cinema industry has never been looked after in a proper way and this is a reason why many Pakistani artists join the Bollywood industry. Currently there are almost 12 Pakistani artists working India and they all have created a huge fan base over there.

Currently both countries are increasing cultural dialogues between them and Bhatt thinks cinema industry can really get a boast, if India and Pakistan co-produce a movie.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, considered a cultural ambassador, added, “There is abundant talent in Pakistan crying to be discovered. Indian cinema is moving from strength to strength. We can add new colour to our products by taking fresh talent from Pakistan. We both stand to benefit if we partner one another and make a co-production.”

In spite of all this, another perception among the industry related people is this that Pakistani people will not like watching their own artists on the big screens because they also like watching Bollywood stars.

A Pakistani producer, Ali, told the media that superstars like Shahrukh Khan, Amir Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar not only rule the Indian box-office but they also have die-hard fans in Pakistan.

Pakistani artists like Veena Malik, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Adnan Sami have quite influence over the Indian people but Ali believes they won’t get much importance in their own country.

Producer Ali said, “Pakistanis want to see the Khans or maybe an Akshay Kumar or Hrithik Roshan. A Pakistani actor is a novelty in India, not in Pakistan.”

There is no doubt that Pakistani people like Bollywood stars a lot because Pakistan is now one of Bollywood’s top five overseas markets. At present, Bollywood’s biggest overseas market is Australia however experts are confident that it is only a matter of time before Australia gets rivalled by Pakistan.

Well, all said and done, let’s see if Pakistan agrees to co-produce a movie with India.
