Steve Jobs’ action doll removed after legal complaints from Apple and Jobs’ family
After a legal challenge from the Steve Jobs’ family and the Apple, the makers of a Steve Jobs action doll have removed the figurine from sale. The doll manufacturers, Hong Kong-based In
Icons posted a notice on its website which said that the company had stopped the production of the doll after immense pressure from the lawyers of Apple and Steve Jobs family.
The statement said, “Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine
out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family.”
It added, “We understand that this decision will cause many of the fans’ disappointment, but please forgive us as there is no other alternative unless to have the blessing from Steve Jobs
family.”
The size of the doll is 12 with blue jeans, sneakers and black turtleneck sweater and the customers who had ordered for the dolls were promised full refunds.
The action doll was on sale for $99 on the company’s website, and on eBay auctions, for $135. The Daily Telegraph asked the company, Apple, to respond to the statement of the doll manufacturers
but they did not respond to that.
The manufacturers stopped the production of the doll after Apple wrote a letter to them warning that any toy that resembles the company’s logo, person’s name, appearance or likeness of
its products will be a criminal offence.
In Icons sold the action doll along with a pair of black socks, glasses, a leather belt, two apples with one bitten on one side, a bar stool and a "One More Thing" backdrop. A spare pair
of hands was also added in the package. Previously, back in 2010, the sale of another company, MiC Gadget that made Steve Jobs action figures, was blocked.
