Government stays true to its word, no load shedding…yet

In a recent statement officials announced the end of load shedding, and in Islamabad at least that seems to be case. Why then is no one enjoying the uninterrupted flow of electricity?

Load shedding during the summer season can be compared to torturing someone by showing his a swimming pool that does not have any water in it while baking him in an oven; in essence having an Air Conditioner that is useless because of the lack of electricity.

In winters it is more of an annoyance than anything else, with one constantly wondering why the government cannot meet the needs of people when not a single AC unit is being used.

The people have often been promised an end to the phenomenon of rolling blackouts in the country by nearly every politician, only to see the opposite happen. So one can understand the lack of enthusiasm that met the latest announcement that there would be
no more load shedding.

Well, I for one can say ‘so far so good’. As a resident of Islamabad I have not had the power go out. Even when I go to office, where there are more power outages than one can bear, there is a constant flow of electricity.

Why then should I not be relieved and celebrating the moment? Well it’s for the same reason that no one else is. Because this is only temporary and that one day, when we least expect it, the power will go out and it will be the same ‘get fuel for the generator’
or ‘charge the UPS’ story that the country has become so used to.

In fact, as long as the current government is in charge I would be surprised if this country did any development. Everything seems to be getting more expensive and there seems to be less of everything. I can only imagine what those less fortunate than me
are going through on a daily basis.

But, in this country you have to take the occasional, tiny bits of joy that come your way or risk the chance of going into depression. So for now, I am cautiously happy though having said that I know that the power could go any second now and that too, without
warning.
