Things that Microsoft should address before bombarding the market with Windows 8 – Part 2

Here are some of the reasons why Windows should not get its hopes high with the release:
1. The need of Windows 8 on desktops and tablets
Since the release of Apple’s newest desktop operating system, Mac OS X Lion, the ratings of Windows are dwindling in the market mainly because of ease-of-use and security. The OS is even more flamboyant on laptops especially with the trackpads and multi-finger gestures on it.
One of the main reasons why MS has been behind in the battle of desktop operating systems is the security it provides. As compared to Apple, Windows is like a bunker in the open for red tails to bombard.
2. Metro might not be the most attractive in the market
The Metro interface is no doubt a big leap from the company to compete with the likes of iOS and Android, who hold the reins of the market trends in tablets and smartphones. The main struggle with Windows in this niche is the late arrival to the market.
Though the Metro interface offers a great deal of icons and tiles and widgets but that only goes as far as the tablets are concerned. When it comes to laptops and desktops, which are mainly managed with mice devices, the Metro interface is useless.
Another thing to mention is that for smartphone users, the interface is like a déjà vu as it has striking resemblance to Windows Phone 7, only that in the mobile operating system, the menu scrolls vertically and in the case of Metro, it is horizontal.
However, the operating system is the one that offers a hybrid solution to all-in-one desktops that have touch screen monitors cum tablets and physical keyboards. Mice devices are another option for these machines. Therefore, when using it as a tablet, the Metro interface is quite a help while as a conventional desktop, the traditional Windows interface can be utilized.
