Empowering women is the key to realizing goal of tolerant and progressive Pakistan: PM Gilani

Lahore: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, while addressing the Convocation ceremony at Kinnaird College for Women, said that the cherished goal of achieving a tolerant and progressive Pakistan could not be achieved without empowering
the women.

He said, “I have often said that the women and minorities are my constituency are their empowerment is a key to realizing the cherished goal of a tolerant, moderate and progressive Pakistan, a Pakistan were all of its citizens
enjoy equality of rights, and opportunities and reach excellence in their chosen professions.”

Highlighting the importance of taking women on board for the national progress, PM Gilani referred to and quoted a famous saying by father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and said, “I recall a quote from the speech
of Quaid-e-Azam Muhamamd Ali Jinnah. He said and I quote, “I have always maintained that no nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take its women along with the men. No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with
men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of the women.”

Adding up to his remarks, he said that empowerment of a woman was not merely empowerment of an individual, rather, it was empowerment of a family and indeed a society at large.
