Jamiat Ulema Islam-F chief and chairman Parliamentary Kashmir Committee Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said resolution of the Kashmir issue is requisite for long-lasting peace and cordial ties between two neighboring states.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the veteran politician has charged India of following an obstinate policy on the Kashmir issue, and freeing the reign of terror. In his view, merely any Indian leader plights to resolve the issue.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, however, denied any hostility of having trade with India, stressing that the Kashmir dispute should also be settled on priority bases.

He observed, “Therefore, this point should be clear as to when India intends to resolve the issue. The resolution of the Kashmir issue was must for durable peace and cordial relations between the two countries, he added.

The JUI-F chief expressed his deep concerns that instead of working towards the conclusion, India was rather worsening things, by building dams on the rivers allocated to Pakistan, to stem water flow towards Pakistan.

He cited the recent statement of former Commissioner of Pakistan Indus Commission, Jammaat Ali Shah, accusing former President Pervez Musharraf of negligence in water issue. At the same time, he stressed on to dish out exemplary punishment to any Pakistani aiding India in any form in construction of illegal water dams in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Fazlur Rehman asserted that water was very important issue; hence, there should be no abandon in this regard.

Informing that Parliamentary Kashmir Committee had held two sessions to discuss the matter of construction of dams by India on the rivers, flowing towards Pakistan, he said they asked the Ministry of Water and Power to be vigilant.

He declared water as the lifeline of the Pakistan economy, warning of any negligence committed. He clarified that it would never be excused by the nation.

“Last week I met with the Ambassadors of Europe and had drawn their attention to this problem, calling upon them to play their role to this effect, and persuade India over the matter” he added.

Criticizing enhancement in Indian defence budget, the JUI-F chief said such steps portrayed its war advocacy intentions, instead of peace.
