President Zardari says ZA Bhutto’s day of martyrdom is a day to commemorate
PPP Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the day of martyrdom of party’s Founder Chairman was also a day of celebration to commemorate what Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the Party had achieved in its long and
arduous struggle for democracy in the country and for the emancipation of its people.
The President said this in a message on the occasion paying also glowing tributes to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 33rd death anniversary tomorrow on Wednesday.
Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto strides the land like a colossus, he said in his message and added, “Shaheed Bhutto awakened the people, gave them hope and made them realize that they were the fountainhead of all political power”.
It is because of this realization among the people that dictatorship has not been able to take roots in the country despite repeated subversions of democracy, the PPP Co Chairman said.
He said that this is one of Shaheed Bhutto’s greatest achievements and no one can rob him of it.
President Zardari said that it was reassuring that the democratic Constitution Shaheed Bhutto gave has survived attempts at subversion and has been purged of the distortions inserted into it by successive dictators.
“It is a tribute to the political genius of Bhutto to have given a consensus Constitution that has survived and reasserted itself”.
He said that the restoration of the democratic Constitution has redeemed the place of our leader in history and also testified to the wisdom and maturity of our political forces.
He said that the restoration of the Constitution reaffirms the political philosophy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto that the people will finally reassert themselves and triumph.
It was also a tribute to Shaheed Bhutto, he said.
Bhutto and Bhuttoism still lives in the hearts and minds of the people, he said and added, “From his grave, Shaheed Bhutto haunts dictators. Reverberations of “Jeeay Bhutto” still send shivers in the enemies of democracy”.
The President also asked the Party workers to rededicate themselves to the ideals of democracy for which Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto lived and laid down his life.
On this day let us also pledge to continue our forward march to empower the people and make Pakistan strong and prosperous, he said.

Z A Bhutto was a political genius. Like any human he had flaws. His strength was his love for the common man who still adheres to his legacy. Bhutto is dead but he lives in the hearts of the people. This is something which his detractors could not take away from him. In fact, they (detractors) have adopted the Bhutto style, which proves the lasting value of the man.
