Alexander Dale Oen found dead in a training camp in US – Swimming News

Norwegian star and 100m breaststroke world champion, Alexander Dale Oen was found dead in his bathroom after he suffered a heart attack during a training camp in United States.

Dale Oen, the 26-year-old star was preparing hard to defend his world title at the 2012 London Olympic Games but suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Monday.

Oen won silver medal of the 100m breaststroke at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games while he accomplished a gold medal in the same at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships.

He was also the European champion of 100m event at Short Course and Long Course formats and was the prime hope of the Norway for winning a gold medal at the forthcoming Olympic Games.

According to an article by AP, autopsy has been conducted however, no results have been declared yet. It remains a mystery that what made him die of a heart attack.

His team coach, Petter Loevberg said, “We’re all in shock. This is an out-of-the-body experience for the whole team over here. Our thoughts primarily go to his family who have lost Alexander way too early.”

 “Alexander Dale Oen was a great sportsman for a small country. My thoughts go to his family and friends,” said the Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg.

However, while commenting on the situation, the federation said, “They found Dale Oen laying partly on the floor, partly on the edge of his bathtub.”

On the other hand, team doctor, Ola Roensen stated, “Everything was done according to procedure, and we tried everything, so it is immensely sad that we were not able to resuscitate him.”

The training camp was coming to an end and Oen was very excited to go back home as he said, “2 days left of our camp up here in Flagstaff, then it’s back to the most beautiful city in Norway.. (hashtag)Bergen.”

On the other hand, Japanese expert, Kosuke Kitajima, and USA’s breaststroke veteran, Brendan Hansen paid their tributes to Oen’s family.

“You see a kid in his prime and never think anything like that could happen. All of a sudden, they’re gone. You can’t help but feel sad,” said Hansen.
