Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan wrote a letter to Speaker Fehmida Mirza, asking her to show impartiality in the day-to-day proceedings.
Apparently, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will be attacking the government from left, right and centre with all the means it can.
The party decided to use the slot of opposition leader to pressurize Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, considering the noisy protests inside the parliament and threats of public agitation outside it are not enough.
In an apparent move to intensify its opposition against the premier, who was convicted by the Supreme Court last week, the Opposition Leader said he would dispatch a series of letters to government functionaries, holders of important constitutional positions, diplomats, think tanks and leaders of other political parties.
In the first phase, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday wrote the first letter to Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza and her deputy Faisal Karim Kundi, asking them to rise above their party affiliation and act impartially when the question is put before them to judge whether the Prime Minister stood disqualified or not.
According to the content shared with media, Nisar observed, “The sanctity of the offices you [speaker and deputy speaker] hold demands you to be impartial and fair to all parties. You, however, have not been”.
The Opposition Leader also said that he reminded Fehmida Mirza and Faisal Karim Kundi about resolutions proposing the creation of four provinces that was submitted his party to her office. He complained, “It should have been on the agenda of the house on Friday”.
Last week, the PML-N accused the Speaker National Assembly of being biased, when she revealed content of a letter to the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), which was dispatched by a deputy registrar of the Supreme Court about the short-ruling against the premier.
While speaking to the media, the speaker said her in the prime minister’s disqualification case would start when the court will provide the detailed-judgment of the case.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in parliament with the controversy over status of Prime Minister Gilani following his conviction on contempt charges dominating the proceedings and the opposition PML-N announcing a boycott until the disposition of the matter.
