Pakistan to end negative list by the end of this year

Lahore: (Monday, May 07, 2012) The Aman Ki Asha Second Pakistan-India Economic Conference is underway in Lahore and is expected to last for two days. During these two days, the capital of Punjab will host the business tycoons from
across border.

Representing Pakistan’s business community in the event, the country’s Trade Secretary, Zafar Mehmood announced that Pakistan would eliminate the negative list regarding trade with India by December 31, 2012.

He said, “The negative list is only 1209 items and the Pakistani cabinet has decided in principal to phase it out by year end provided the Ministry of Commerce successfully negotiates with India comes back to the cabinet and assures
them that India has given us a level playing field.”
