New MacBook line with Retina Display, bad idea for battery and applications – Part 2

The most important thing to consider in this scenario is, whether customers want a new display of the proposed size. The highest resolution seen in the market, regardless of the screen size, is 1,920×1,080 pixels, which is more commonly known as full HD or 1080p resolution. To date, no one has even complaint about the resolution or demanded a denser option.

Giving a 14- or 15-inch display a resolution of 2,560×1,600 would be overdoing it. Though it might provide a paper-like display to the viewer, it will make applications even complicated to build for both Retina and non Retina displays.

To cater to a display this much dense, technologist refer to a separate graphics processing technology called HiDPI. Apple might have to get their hands on the said tech to process the rich graphics. Inclusion of HiDPI will make device even more complex.

The market is already very complicated with a slew of other options and a MacBook with Retina Display is surely going to aggravate the issue. Moreover, applications will have a dual nature to display on a Retina Display MacBook and a non-Retina Display iMac, for example. Those with the option of such resolution might use up all the real estate but for those that do not have RD option will have to make peace with a digitally enhanced more blurred display as the resolution doubles in the new MacBook.

Therefore, it can safely be said that Apple has to brain storm the idea of Retina Display, if it were true, to make necessary arrangements to ensure the new display tech does not affect the battery life and the app market. Otherwise, discarding the idea for another time would be a wise decision, according to the experts.
