Nintendo officially releases Wii U GamePad on E3 2nd Day
Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 6:12:03 by Usman KhalidNintendo Co. Ltd. released Wii U GamePad on Wednesday, June 6 at the E3 seminar in Los Angeles. The new device will work as a tablet to the Wii U, which is the stand alone console.
Though the new device is an upgrade to the portable consoles with likes of Nintendo 3DS, there are certain things about it that are still in the mist.
Will the new GamePad be able to play games in a standalone mode or will it be dependent on the console attached to the television, as marketed by the company in the pre-release presentation. The good thing about the GamePad is that it can still work even if the television is switched off or someone else is watching it. As long as the desktop console is turned on, the tablet will work fine.
The new device has a mesmerizing 6.2-inch touch-sensitive LED screen and all the necessary controls to play the game. In addition, these games can also be played in iPhone-like style by tapping on the touch screen.
Moreover, the GamePad also has a gyroscope and an accelerometer to increase the level of game-play for low-profile gamers. The need to include smartphone technologies to a portable console indicates that the gaming is now becoming more interactive and hard to play with limitations of keys.
Nintendo also announced that the new console, both desktop and portable will be able to stream media from and to the devices. Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu, and other video sources will be available as the online media streaming sources. However, that is almost what other gaming consoles like Xbox and PlayStation are providing. Here Nintendo fails to provide anything extra-ordinary. What the company could provide as an incentive was live television, absent in the service list of other consoles.
Another new feature in the GamePad is Miiverse, which is a social network that connects other Wii users to a single platform. Users can interact with each other through forums and video chats.
