It has been more than half a decade that Danfung Dennis has been running a hot streak in the documentary business. His work on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, photos and videos covering the battle activities, have won commendations from several academies. However, it seems the mere notion of documenting things in 2D has not satisfied his inner druthers.

Dennis, in partnership with Andrew Chang, initiated a new one-of-a-kind project called Condition One. Though it is more on the technology side of the stick than documentary, it envisages a completely different horizon for documentary production and even live footage.

Condition One has derived a new method of more interactive video footage from the existing concepts of 3D visions and telephotography. What Condition One produces is actually a reproduction of a normal video footage with a wider viewing angle that can be scrolled to 180 degrees in every direction, forward.

The clip is shot with a normal camera that has a convex lens normally used to capture tele-shots. Then the footage is send to Condition One for editing. What the nascent company does is reproduce the blurred images on the peripheral angles to widen the viewing angles. This way viewer can tilt the spot of concentration to 90 degrees in either direction, giving a semi-sphere of vision.

The company has joined hands with Apple. The select-few clips developed by Condition One are available on iPads and iPhones. The experience is completely astounding; the user can now see the complete left, right, up and bottom sides of the view with more details.

“The goal is to mimic the human field of view,” said COO Chang.

The viewing angle can be manoeuvred by scrolling to either side. Moreover, Condition One has linked the scrolling function to the accelerometer and gyroscope of the iPads and iPhones. The user can not simple turn or tilt the tablet/smartphone to enjoy the semi-sphere of watch.
