Only few days left for final examination of the police officials having out of shape bellies, as those failed to meet the standard-measurement would immediately be removed from field jobs and shifted to the Police Lines.

Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Habibur Rehman warned police officers to shape up their bellies within one month and they would be examined on July 1st.

The police personnel having a waistline of more than 38 inches would be sent to police lines until they reduce their pet bellies, he added.

According to a report, more than 77 per cent of the Rawalpindi District Police officials from the rank of constable to inspector have been declared as pot-bellied. However, the officials above the DSP level were excluded from the examination, it added.

The report further informed that only 4369 police personnel from the rank of constable to inspector out of total 19, 000 were found up to the mark having waistline of less than 38 inches.

Some 14, 731 including 74 inspectors, 894 sub-inspectors, 2251 assistant sub-inspectors, 4103 head constables and 7409 constables were marked as having pot-bellies, it said. An official of the SP rank will carry out the waistline-measuring examination while the report would be compiled by an official of the rank of Inspector.

The report noted, “Warning letters have been sent to 14,731 police personnel with the advice to reduce their bellies before July 1.The source said that the Punjab IGP has advised all police officials, including those in the ranks of DSP and above, but the concerned authorities separated themselves from the fitness test”.

Nabila Ghazanfar, the spokesperson of the department, said police personnel were joining gyms, jogging and doing other exercise, including a lot of running to become thin and slim.

She added, “Overweight officers are ineffective and cannot chase bandits, robbers and other criminals properly. We have a shortage of personnel, what can you expect when one official is doing the job of six people? They don’t get time for physical fitness”.

Although, all police personnel, particularly station house officers (SHOs), are making efforts to reduce their waistlines, but most of them have no control over their pot-bellies.

Pakistan is ranked 165 of 194 on the Forbes list of fattest countries, with 22.2 per cent of the population considered overweight despite immense poverty faced by millions in the country.

  1. Truth to be told

So Infact now these policemen will be more happy as they will not be given front line jobs and as a result they will enjoy their office duties. They will remain in Police with more easy life from now on..

  2. Knotty

orcing them to exercise is a great move. Exercise is addictive. Once you start, you love the high and do even more, and work to maintain your fitness. It’ll be great to see fit and buff police officers. Good move.
