Rehman Malik orders to investigate Turbat incident
Saturday, July 7th, 2012 3:15:02 by Faisal FarooqAdvisor to Prime Minister on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik on Saturday directed DG FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) to submit an immediate report over killing spree in Turbat.
In what appeared to be an ethnically-motivated attack, unidentified gunmen on Friday killed a group of would-be migrants in Turbat district near the Iranian border. Malik while condemning the incident order a detailed inquiry of the brutal episode.
The advisor also ordered for arrest of the agents involved in the human smuggling en-route Turbat. According to the official press note, those who were killed in Turbat belonged to Punjab.
Malik ordered stern action against the agents involved in human trafficking abroad and their apprehension within 72 hours.
The official statement said, “The human smugglers through this route were carrying the people in jeeps across the border to Iran, when one way the terrorists opening fire killed them”. A report from the concerned provincial officials has also been sought by the advisor.
Earlier, the advisor while speaking to the media said that Pakistan Rangers and other law enforcement agencies would be responsible for the security of NATO trucks travelling through the country.
He noted, “All the IGs have been directed to provide security cover to the containers in their respective jurisdiction. Rangers, local Police would provide security cover to containers in Sindh while Police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) will escort containers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”.
It is vital to mention here that first shipment of containers carrying supplies crossed into Afghanistan on Thursday after Islamabad lifted the ban after a period of seven months.
The advisor said that Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) should not take the law into its hands in protesting against NATO supply resumption, adding that he would not publicly announce the plan of action for the upcoming DPC long march.
He also stated that the parliament should be sole decision-maker pertaining to the issues of dual-nationality and the contempt of court law. In his view, politics of petitions is severely damaging the system.
Replying to a query, he stated that he had presented evidence to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) pertaining to what he called corruption worth 32 million dollars carried out by the Sharif brothers.
