PPP’s Jamshed Dasti offers himself to be next premier

Sensing the fate of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the NRO implementation case, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Jamshed Dasti offered himself to be the next prime minister of the country.

While addressing a press conference at the Multan Press Club, the MNA said he was ready to become chief executive of the country.

He noted, “I am ready to offer my services as the next prime minister if the party leadership proposes, which might happen soon owing to the judiciary’s unconstitutional decisions”.

Commenting about orientation of the various parties, Dasti said that the upcoming general elections will disclose many things.

He stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz were passengers on the same boat.

He asked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to stop the PML-N from becoming a dictatorial party in the province if he was a part of an unbiased judicial system.

Explaining the hypocrisy of the PML-N, the PPP MNA said that the party had been disclosed while opposing the creation of South Punjab as separate province.

It is engineering a delay in picking up commission members for the new federating units in the country, he added.

He said that no names had been given up till now despite passage of 25 days since the commission was constituted.

He alleged that Shahbaz Sharif was exploiting the resources of southern Punjab and the provincial government had reduced the allocation of funds for Chaudhry Pervez Elahi Institute of Cardiology from Rs200 million to Rs100 million.

“The institute is the only facility for the cardiac patients of southern Punjab but the provincial government has reduced its allocation,” he said.

He vowed that no political party would be allowed to become the Don of the country as the general elections will be completely free, fair and transparent.

When he was asked where he would contest the upcoming elections, Dasti said that he would contest from the NA-177 against Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

He commented, “This is not my decision but the voice of the people. Since the last four years, Khar has visited her constituency only four times and people from her constituency approach me for their affairs”.

The PPP MNA expressed optimism about historic defeat to Khar in the general polls.
