Jakob Fuglsang not going to Saxo Bank

Jakob Fuglsang has announced to end his associations with Team RadioShack-Nissan and the cyclist is already in negotiations with numerous teams.

It was previously reported by media that the rider has shown interest towards riding with Bjarne Riis’ side, Team Saxo Bank for the 2013 season.

However, in his latest statement Fuglsang has hinted that he will either join Team Astana or Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step to continue his professional pursuit.

He briefed, “Right now I don’t think Bjarne’s team is one of them”.

“I can tell you that Astana and Omega Pharma are the two teams I’m talking to the most”.

“I would like to go and work with Bjarne again but I have to look at my own role on the team and for me with the investments he’s making at the moment it might not be the right choice for me”.

“He’s going to have a really strong team with Contador back and other GC riders so it might not be the best solution for me”.

The 27-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Saxo Bank in 2009 and spent a period of two years with the side.

He joined Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and was selected for the final Team RadioShack-Nissan squad for the 2012 season.

The cyclist bagged overall victories at the Tour de Luxembourg and the Tour of Austria along with a stage 4 win at the race.

He also occupied the top podium spot at the National Time Trial Championships for the second time in his career.

Following the news of his exit from the side, Team RadioShack Manager, Johan Bruyneel announced that Jakob will not be participating at any World Tour events for the rest of the season.

However, the lack of available and fit cyclists in the team’s camp might allow the Dane to participate two Canadian races after the Tour of Colorado.

It will be interesting to see, how Jakob approaches the opportunity to ride the GP de Quebec and the GP de Montreal scheduled on September 7 and September 9 respectively.

Winner of each race will be awarded with a 80 UCI points, the second and the third position finishers will receive 60 and 50 UCI points respectively.
