Defending champion Novak Djokovic makes a winning start at US Open – Tennis News

Second seed, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, slaughtered the Italian star, Paolo Lorenzi, with double breadsticks at the Flushing Meadows 2012, last of the four Grand Slam events held in Corona Park, New York City. He penned down a 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 victory to blast
into the second round on Tuesday.

The Serbian number one reeled off 12 games in a row after losing his opening serve and eventually carved out the victory in 73 minutes. He smashed 32 winners and spilled only 12 unforced errors to register this victory.

"I tried to analyse my game, and my game was great from the start to the end," the Serbian star stated in a post match press conference. "It’s also important for me to try to be as economical with the time I spend on the court as possible, but obviously
not underestimating any opponent. I played really focussed, tried to get to the net also. It was great all in all."

Djokovic took full advantage of six double faults his opponent committed and cashed in nine out of 13 break chances to register this success. He also hammered seven aces and produced a better first serve share of 79 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 52
per cent.

He will next face the Brazilian contender, Rogerio Dutra Silva, who battled past Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili in a five-set thriller to set up this battle.

The Ukrainian number one, Alexandr Dolgopolov, will join Djokovic in the following round. The 14th seed made an epic comeback from two sets down to overpower the local challenger, Jesse Levine, with a 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 score line.

Dolgopolov will face off Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis in second round.
