Government doing nothing to stop sectarian violence; says Nawaz Sharif

Voicing concerns over increasing incidents sectarian killings in the country, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif flayed criticism at the government for doing nothing ensure peace.

Nawaz Sharif, who is visiting Gilgit-Baltistan, offered complete support to the regional government in dealing with extremism and militancy.

He observed, “Unfortunately, incidents of terrorism are on the rise while the government is doing nothing to stop them”.

He made it clear that he was not in the region to criticize the government but to make efforts to get the nation rid of the menace of sectarian violence and militancy from the country.

The PML-N leader said that he would stay in Giglit if it was necessary for establishment of peace.

Regretting that no one had been apprehended in the wake of the recent target killings in Babusar, he said that the government will have to use its resources to eradicate militancy from the country.

He noted, “The first and foremost responsibility of the government of time is to chase the perpetrators and give them exemplary punishment. Doctors, professors, teachers and judges are being killed by the terrorists, who roam freely across the country”.

In his view, the government authorities lacked commitment or was incapacitated to overcome the law and order situation.

Nawaz Sharif further said that situation in Balochistan was not invisible and everybody knew what is being happened there. The killings of Hazara people had saddened him to the core of the heart, he added.

“This country was outcome of the joint struggle of every community under the dynamic command of Quid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and it was the country of all sects and religions, including Hindus, Sikhs, Ahmadis”, he remarked.

The PML-N leader was of the opinion that hate mongers were not worth calling humans and it was the responsibility of all citizens to make efforts to root them out.

When he was about formation of new federating units, the new provinces should be formed on the basis of administrative needs not political stunts.

In his view, the talk about new provinces at this stage was like a conspiracy against the country.
