Apparently failing to get the things in right direction, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Rao Qamar Suleman has resigned from his post citing poor health.

PIA Deputy Managing Director Captain Junaid Younus has been appointed as the acting chairman of the corporation.

PIA spokesperson Sultan Hassan has confirmed Rao’s resignation however he did not reveal the reason behind this decision.

Some media reports claimed that Suleman has not been feeling well as he recently developed heart ailments.

Suleman, the former Air Chief Marshal of the Pakistan Air Force, was appointed as the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of PIA in May 2012. He had previously been appointed as PIA Managing Director.

The national flag career has been undergoing losses and malfunctions and the new chef was inducted to bring some major reforms in the airline in to make it profitable and lucrative.

However, nothing such happened in his tenure. Almost a third of the airline flights have suffered delays this year due to technical and administrative reasons, dealing a severe blow to the business of the PIA.

More than 4,345 of PIA’s 12,184 flights were delayed due to various faults in this year’s first three months.

Rao Qamar Suleman retired from his post of PAF chief on March 18, after completing his three-year term, and was replaced by Air Marshal Tahir Raffiq Butt.

Last week, the Supreme Court had summoned Suleman for the second week of October on an application moved by the Transparency International-Pakistan voicing apprehensions over the state of affairs and corruption in the national flag carrier.

Citing a newspaper report, the Transparency International had requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take notice of a host of issues prevalent in PIA like purchase of aircraft on very high prices and a loss of Rs410 million suffered by the airline because of cancellation of 1,200 flights between August and November last year.

The apex court is also seized with a set of petitions alleging rampant corruption and mismanagement in PIA.

Rao resignation is shocking and sad for every person who is interested in well being of National Corporation. PIA is under the grip of money siphoning groups who are well organised and highly capable in managing the men who matters most. This brave man unmanageable by those groups and feels helpless during his stay. Those groups acted in other ways knowing that this graceful man will not accept any dishonor and will resign so that happened. I salute to this great man, who did the best slowly but consistently, brought the the best changes in PIA by running quality assurance series, decreasing directors with cool and well controlled managing style.
PIA has become a battle field of plundering, and plunderer are waging endless war to capture more and more money from PIA through dozens of dozens of different method by keeping Airline managing system as old when there was no vehicle on road, and winning the nearly every battle of money making with out any resistance. They win this battle also.
