PPP to join countrywide protests against anti-Islam film

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday said that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) will also participate in protest demonstrations against the anti-Islam film announced by different organizations and political parties.

While speaking to the media, the minister said that the party has decided to join hands with the protesters against the blasphemous film.

In his view, the entire nation is united when it comes to the sanctity of last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

He appealed to the United Nations to frame laws to stop publication and circulation of blasphemous material against Islam.

He noted, “The blasphemous movie is a conspiracy against the personality of our holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and we strongly condemn its contents. It is not the matter of one sect but that of the entire Muslim Ummah”.

He further stated, “President Asif Ali Zardari will raise this issue in the UN General Assembly.”

He further said that he had briefed the cabinet about steps taken to block the blasphemous material on the internet.

Commenting about the situation in Karachi‚ Rehman Malik said several terror plots have been thwarted due to effective security measures.

“Or enemy is out to destabilize Pakistan by triggering unrest on ethnic and sectarian basis but we are fully alive to the situation and all available resources will be utilized to foil their designs”, he added.

He informed the media that a new wave of violence has hit the metropolis city, adding that the terrorists wanted to carry out attacks at the shopping centre but they could not do so due to the effective security arrangements made by the administration.

Answering to a question related to mobile services, Malik said that a joint strategy will be formulated after consulting with the relevant parties.

Commenting about the dual nationality case, Rehman Malik said he thought some other motives involved. He appealed to Chief Justice to take suo motu notice in this regard as the petitioner was a proclaimed offender.
