Toray Pan Pacific Open second round results – Tennis News

Several top seeds showed brilliant skills at the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2012 on Tuesday. However, Kaia Kanepi, Petra Kvitova and Ana Ivanovic became casualty of the day at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Five event.

Many big names stole the show at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.

The top seed, Victoria Azarenka from Belarus, crippled the Austrian challenger, Tamira Paszek, with double breadsticks in almost one hour.

The world number two, Maria Sharapova, on the other hand lost her opening set. However, she made an epic comeback and took down the British qualifier, Heather Watson, in three hours and nine minutes.

The Polish number one Agnieszka Radwanska, who is seeded third in this event, also earned the glory later that day. She required one hour and 36 minutes dumping the former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, in straight sets to progress.

Seeded fourth at this outdoor hard court event, Petra Kvitova, faced a bitter reality. She suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss at the hands of the Czech contender, Petra Martic, in one hour and 28 minutes.

"I got my first Top 10 win at Roland Garros, but this one is even bigger," the booming Czech commented after stunning the World No.5. "I’m very happy about this win. Petra played very well today. She has a big serve, kept me on the defensive and made me
run a lot, and that’s not my game. She played so well today, very aggressive tennis. Petra has really improved her forehand. She hits it very hard down the line and crosscourt. And she also has a good slice, which can be tough to handle."

Elsewhere, the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic stepped off steam after bagging the opening set. The 11th seeded Serb was broken six times and eventually suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 loss at the hands of the Polish starlet, Urszula Radwanska.

The Estonian number one also exited form the tournament with disappointment. She exited to the American qualifier, Jamie Hampton, in straight sets in almost two hours.
