Hail and farewell to those we lost in 2012 (Part Three)

Obaidullah Baig (1936 — 2012) – Eminent scholar/Urdu writer/novelist/columnist/documentary filmmaker
Baig is most famous for his quiz show Kasauti, which he started with Iftikhar Arif in the ‘70s, and Ghazi Salahuddin in the ‘90s. He started his career at Radio Pakistan in 1961 and moved to television in 1964. His award winning documentaries include Game Warden, Lakes of Sindh and Wildlife in Sindh. He was 76-years-old when he passed away in June 22.
Ardeshir Cowasjee (1926 — 2012) Columnist/socialist/scholar
Renowned columnist Ardeshir Cowasjee has passed away in Karachi on Saturday. Ardeshir Cowasjee was one of the oldest columnists of Pakistan. He was born in Karachi in 1926. He was chairman of the Cowasjee Group. Cowasjee was also known as a social activist, philanthropist, and a businessman.
Faizan Peerzada (1958-2012) – Producer/director/puppeteer
Peerzada was a devoted puppeteer and artist, who began his career at his father’s Rafi Theatre Workshop in 1977. He also introduced Sim Sim Hamara, the Urdu rendition to Sesame Street in 2011 in collaboration with USAID. Peerzada suffered a heart attack and died on December 20.
Bashir Ahmad Bilour (1943 – 2012)
Bilour was a member of the provincial assembly of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Senior Minister for Local Government and Rural Development of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
He was leaving after attending a meeting of ANP workers at a private residence in Peshawar, when he was assassinated by a suicide bomber on 22 December 2012.
Bilour was indeed a brave man. Unlike most politicians, he had the moral courage to call a spade a spade. He openly spoke and struggled against terrorism and eventually paid with his life.
