District and Sessions Court Muzaffargarh Thursday awarded 3 years imprisonment and a fine of 5000 rupees to former PPP MNA Jamshed Dasti for presenting fake degree in 2008 elections.
The court declared him ineligible for contesting elections.
Jamshed Dasti was arrested after court’s order. Dozens of his supporters raised slogans in his favour shortly after the verdict was delivered.
Dasti Wednesday announced that he had decided against contesting for two National Assembly seats as an independent candidate.
The former lawmaker had been elected from the Muzaffargarh NA-178 constituency in 2008 and later returned from the same seat in a by-election.
He later resigned as member of the National Assembly in 2010 after the Supreme Court ordered him to present his graduation degree.
The Returning Officer also rejected nomination papers of Ayaz Amir for his objectionable writings in his newspaper columns.
