Moon-sighting committee to meet on Thursday

A meeting of the Central “Ruet-e-Hilal” Committee will be held on Thursday in Karachi for sighting of crescent of “Eid-ul-Fitr”.

Chairman of the Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will preside over the meeting.  He will make announcement of sighting or otherwise of the ‘Shawal’ moon.

Zonal committees will also meet at provincial headquarters.

The Meteorological Department has said that chances of sighting the moon on Thursday night are high in parts of Sindh and Balochistan.

The Met department said that the moon would be clearly sighted in interior areas of Sindh including Hyderabad and Karachi.

There are hopes for Eid on a single day in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and rest of the country as was in the case of Ramazan.  

The unofficial committee headed by Mufti Shahabuddin Populzai had not received any evidence for Ramazan moon thanks to clouds in post parts of KPK on the day the committee had met in his Peshawar’s mosque.

The KPK government had invited his committee to join the official committee meeting for Ramazan moon sighting however he had refused.

It was a positive development that the KPK’s PTI government had not joined Populzai’s committee like the practice the ANP government had started.

Slain KPK minister Bashir Bolour used to attend the Populzai committee and even the ANP government would celebrate Eid on his committee’s decision.
