Pakistan condemns killing of civilians in Egypt

Pakistan on Thursday condemned Egyptian dictatorial leadership for killing unarmed civilians in a crackdown against the supported of the deposed President.

Reports say that at least 421 people died when security forces stormed two camps which supporters of ousted leader Mohammed Morsi.

A state of emergency was declared and curfews imposed in Egyptian cities.

“The Government of Pakistan expresses its dismay and deep concern over the use of force by the Egyptian security forces against unarmed civilians which resulted in loss of innocent lives in Cairo and other cities,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“The tragic events of Wednesday 14 August, are a major setback for Egypt’s return to democracy,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.

“As a friend and a well- wisher of the people of Egypt, Pakistan is closely observing developments in that country and urges all parties to exercise restraint and to respect the fundamental rights of the fraternal people of that great country.”

Pakistan called for the release of political prisoners to ensure that the legal and constitutional issues can be addressed through dialogue among all parties, in an inclusive and peaceful manner, to enable the country to successfully restore the democratic institutions, as early as possible.

“It is the earnest hope of the Government and people of Pakistan that the brotherly people of Egypt with their patience, tolerance and fortitude, would be able to overcome their current challenges, in a manner that ensures sustained democracy, political stability, and economic development, while ensuring peace and well-being of the people,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Pakistan Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed concern for the people killed during clashes in Egypt while speaking in the parliament.

 “Human rights violations and killings of people are unacceptable in the democratic era,” the minister told the National Assembly after the issues was raised by lawmakers.
