Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has ordered inquiry into Jinnah Avenue incident, officials said Friday.

The Prime Minister directed Secretary Interior to conduct inquiry and present the report.

Meanwhile‚ a spokesman of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad said gunman Sikandar who sustained bullet wounds in yesterday’s operation in Islamabad has been taken off the ventilator.

He said Sikandar is breathing well but not in a position to record his statement.

Islamabad police registered a case against Muhammad Sikandar at Kohsar police station Friday under Section 6 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Sikandar’s wife Kanwal was also named in the FIR.

Sikandar staged a nearly six-hour drama in Islamabad on Thursday and opened fire in the security zone after sneaking into the constitutional avenue.

The stand-off came to a head when politician Zamarud Khan, a leader of the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), who was acting as a negotiator, jumped on Sikandar and tried to disarm him.

Police and paramilitary forces shot Sikandar, who fell to the ground and was carried away by police and paramilitary officers.
