Nawaz Sharif praises Zardari’s democracy role

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Thursday said President Zardari has played a vital role in strengthening democratic system and surrendered his powers to the parliament.

 

Speaking at a farewell lunch in honour of President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad he said it is a unique occasion in the country’s history that a democratically elected President is leaving his office with dignity and honour on completion of his tenure.

The prime minister hoped that President-elect Mamnoon Hussain will also play positive role to further strengthen democracy and institutions.

“Time has come that the country should be ruled purely on democratic lines and transition of power takes place through democratic means,” he said.

 

He called upon all political forces to reject undemocratic ways for change of regime.

 

The prime minister said says Pakistan’s stability and strengthening of democracy is top most priority of the present government.

 

In his remarks‚ President Zardari declared full support to the present government in tackling the challenges confronting the country.

 

He said no politics will be made on the national issues. The President said all the political parties should stand together for the future of the country.

 

He thanked the PML-N for supporting the PPP government in strengthening democratic institutions. 

The luncheon was attended by top political leaders including Ch. Shujaat Hussain, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed and army chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani.

Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari has appreciated the unprecedented sacrifices offered by the people of FATA in the fight against militancy.

Talking to a delegation from FATA in Islamabad‚ he emphasised the removal of hardships of the tribal people and creation of more economic opportunities for them.

 

The delegation thanked the President for FATA reforms introduced during its tenure including Amendments in the FCR and Extension of the Political Parties Order to tribal areas.

 

Talking to a delegation of Parliamentarians from Sindh in Islamabad‚ the president complimented the entire nation particularly parliamentarians and political forces for the first democratic transition in the country. 

“We took the track of reconciliation to strengthen democracy.”

The delegation appreciated president‘s policy of tolerance and reconciliation.
