Sanctions against Russia have a ” boomerang effect ” and have Russian- American relations to a “dead end,” said Thursday President Vladimir Putin reacting to the latest round of restrictions against key economic enterprises of the country, announced on Wednesday in Washington.

The state oil company Rosneft, the gas company Novatek and Gazprombank Vneshekonombank and banks as well as several companies in the defense sector, have been hit with financial sanction due to Russia’s policy in relation to the southeastern Ukraine. Moscow accuses Washington of lack of desire to resolve the situation in those regions, the scene of an increasingly virulent war.

“This hurts long-term national strategic interests of the state and the American people,” Putin said during his visit to Brazil. “Russia is deeply concerned to an end of the conflict in Ukraine,” he added.

The sanctions expand the list of Russian officials involved with the addition of Vice President of the Duma, Sergei Neverov; President Putin ‘s assistant, Igor Schegolev, and the minister in charge of Crimea, Oleg Savelev. Also affect the head of government called the People’s Republic of Donetsk call (RPD), Russian Aleksandr Borodai.

For these new sanctions, Russian companies are deprived of the opportunity to receive credit for more than 90 days, but American companies are not prohibited from maintaining working relationships or conduct financial transactions with affected. However, sanctions against the Russian military industry, affecting huge companies like Almaz- Antei, Kalashnikov or Uralvagonzavod, contemplated the absolute cessation of contacts and the freezing of assets of companies in U.S. banks. The U.S. administration accuses Russia of allowing the flow of weapons and fighters across its border to Ukraine and not doing enough for the separatists to release the hostages and maintain a ceasefire.

Putin claimed to be studied “unhurried and quiet way ” the nature of the sanctions and accused the U.S. of maintaining a ” non-professional politics” and ” fairly aggressive ” in recent years. As an example he mentioned the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

Russian President again stressed the need for dialogue to solve the conflict in eastern Ukraine and said it would have been desirable that the U.S. and Russia have urged the warring parties to negotiate. For Thursday afternoon was scheduled a round of trilateral talks between the group consisting of Ukraine, Russia and the separatists under the aegis of the OSCE. Negotiation will be conducted by video confererencing. In Moscow, President of the Parliament of the RPD, Denis Pushilin said that if the talks had not started before was because they had not been invited to it.

In Moscow, the head of the Russian government, Medvedev said that sanctions contribute further fanning anti-American and anti-Western sentiment and also claimed to be reflected in the budget. Medvedev braved the possibility of increasing the defense budget of Russia. ” We’ll have to pay more attention to defense spending,” he said, and also said that sanctions ” will not help Ukraine”.

Rosneft is the first oil company in the world thanks to the incorporation of the assets that belonged to the Yukos company tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky. To purchase those assets, the state oil company borrowed in the international market and has a huge portfolio of loans, many of them granted by American banks. The president of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, described the sanctions against his company “baseless, illegal and harmful to American shareholders.” Borrowing short and long term and were problematic for Russia before the sanctions, since the political climate slows investors and causes deterioration of the economic climate in the country. The two bags of Moscow reacted to sanctions with individual dips which became 3.6%. Rosneft shares also resented and the ruble weakened against the dollar and the euro.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed ” disappointment” with the European position, saying that European “despite their own interests have joined the blackmail of the U.S. administration.”
