Speaking regarding the hikes in the electricity tariff, Mr. Imran Khan, leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf criticized the incumbent government for being unable to curb electricity theft in the country.

“The government is increasing the prices of electricity regularly to meet the loss caused by the theft and the consumers are paying the price,” he further added.

Pakistan has been suffering from a power crises for years now due to several reasons, including the mismanagement of dams and rampant electricity theft.

The government has also constantly been increasing electricity tariffs since coming into power, which, according to Mr. Imran, was to make consumers pay for the government’s shortcomings.

“I burnt my electricity bill in reaction and the government disconnected the supply to my residence and I am using candles these days,” he also shared, going on to add that the Prime Minister also had electricity dues of about Rs. 6.5 million, but his electricity connection was not cut.

Talking about the Election Commission of Pakistan, the PTI chief added that his party will continue to protest in front of the ECP since it has not provided the party any relief in regards to their complaints.

“It was the duty of the ECP to provide justice to the PTI over the complaints but nothing has been done in one and a half year,” he stated.
