OCBC US Open GP Gold: Tony Gunawan and Vita Marissa wrap up Mixed Doubles crown

Tony Gunawan and Vita Marissa, two experienced shuttler from USA and Indonesia respectively, proved their worth on court and grabbed Mixed Doubles crown at Last week’s OCBC US Open GP Gold 2012 that was held at Los Angeles, USA.

In the title match, Gunawan and Marissa punished Japan’s Misaki Matsutomo and Kenichi Hayakawa in an inspiring manner.

Gunawan and Marissa were on a different level on the final day of the tournament and ousted their third seeded Japanese opponents without showing them any respect.

The lower ranked Gunawan and Marissa worked really well and unleashed their impressive shots from all areas to overpower their Japanese opponents in straight sets with a huge margin.

Matsutomo and Hayakawa, on the contrary, played attacking game but failed to shake the impressive defence of their opponents and bowed down to them in straight games in just 23 minutes.

The third seeded Japanese shuttlers played fast badminton in the first game of title match by taking the bird early and took an impressive lead of 9-5.

Nonetheless, the Japanese couple could not maintain the lead as Gunawan and Marissa played remarkable badminton and managed to take a reasonable lead of 11-9 until the mid-game interval.

Gunawan and Marissa continued their aggressive run after the break and managed to wrap up opening game with a huge difference of 21-13.

The in-form Gunawan and Marissa remained aggressive on court as they did not slow down their speed at any stage in the second set.

They maintained an upper hand over their Japanese opponents by keeping the pace of rallies high and set up an 11-6 until the break.

After the mid-game interval, the impressive Gunawan and Marissa remained consistent on court and maintained pressure on their opponents while remaining positive on court.

They were impressive in the execution of strokes and won the second game in a dominating manner with a huge 21-10 score on the board.

The lower ranked Gunawan and Marissa won the Mixed Doubles crown at US Open by finishing off the final battle in straight sets with a staggering margin of 21-13 and 21-10.
