Shakira scoops Latin Recording Academy “Person of the Year” award 

Internationally acclaimed pop singer, Shakira has been awarded as Person of the Year by Latin Recording Academy in America, last night.

The ceremony was attended by some of the big star including Mexican rocker Alejandra Guzman, Venezuelan crooner Franco De Vita and salsa legend Gilberto Santa Rosa. The Colombian star was honoured in front of the legends at a tribute
dinner.

The musical legends praised the Latin American super star to pave her way in to the limelight and hailed her efforts and struggles to reach this stage of her career.

Shakira has now become the youngest singer to receive the most prestigious award after the likes of Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan. The 34-year-old has recorded arguably sixty English and Spanish music albums.

”This is one of the most important moments of my life. I’m happy, honoured and I’m humbled.” Shakira was quoted as saying.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, has recently been honoured with her own star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and she has been nominated for awards including best album of the year. The Latin Grammy Award winners
would be announced no later than 10th November.

After starting her professional career at the age of 14, Shakira put her heart and soul in to music and her efforts were well recognized by the Spanish audience after releasing her album “Pies Descalzos”.

She then decided to amuse the English audience and came up with her solo hit-song “Whenever, Wherever”. She was appreciated to go for more English songs after then, knowing that 13 million copies of her first English album “Laundry
Service” were sold worldwide.

Speaking on her latest album “Sale el Sol”, Shakira admitted that she is optimistic about her latest venture.

“I’ve been able to harvest the efforts of the past,” she concluded.

Upon her success, another Latin Grammy nominee De Vita heaped praise on the Colombian star and said:

“She has had an extraordinary and enviable career.”

Besides singing, Shakira has been appointed to a presidential commission on education for Hispanics by the United States President, Barack Obama, after noticing her efforts to promote education in Latin America.
