Apple iOS and Google Android in neck-and-neck competition

This year Apple, Inc. has seen its share of highs and lows in terms of market share, sales and profits. The company was left orphaned after the passing away of their cofounder and visionary Steve Jobs in October.

Jobs’ health condition this year and his ultimate departure were bad omens for Apple. First the technology giants faced fluctuation in shares when Jobs announced his retirement and then another dip in the graph when he passed away, just two days after the
iPhone 4S release.

Moreover, the 4S released proved to be sweepstakes for Apple, since the new handset faced a massive battery problem. This technical faux pas will certainly reflect on the sales results in the October-December quarter.

Latest statistics stated that iOS devices faced a slump in the July-September quarter.

There has been observed a fierce competition between Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS of late. The recent stats show that the Android devices are dominating the market with a whopping 52.5 percent share while iOS products are humbled at 3rd position
with a mere 15% share. Nokia Symbian is sandwiched between the two at 2nd position with 16.9 percent slice of the pie.

However, Apple has conquered the operating profits with gargantuan 65 percent against Google, Research In Motion, Nokia and Motorola.

In addition to the mobile-device competition, Google also decided to give Apple a hard time in cloud services. Right after Apple announced iTunes Match for feasibility to track and save tunes on iCloud and personal devices, Google announced their own online
music store, Music Beta.com. This online competitor to iTunes will certainly take a roguish blow at Apple in digital music market.

Moreover, the iPhone 4S battery problem has not been solved with Apple’s so called upgrade iOS 5.0.2. Users are still pouring in at Apple sale centres with complaints that the new update has been impotent.

In other news, Apple has been observed in procuring components for its new 15-inch Macbook Air and new instalment to the iPad family, which is speculated to be either iPad 3 or an upgraded iPad 2S.
