Pakistan no longer ready to take dictation – Asif Ali Zardari

President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has said that the country is no more ready to take dictation from any super power and Pakistan will do whatever is in the benefit of the country.

The President was speaking on the death-anniversary of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Bux.

Since last 60 years in general and the previous decade in particular, US has had a huge influence in the foreign policy of Pakistan. The country is facing a massive energy crisis and its neighbor, Iran has been offering assistance to Pakistan in this problem.

However, since last many years, Pakistan has been reluctant to take Iran’s help in this matter because of the US influence.

Since last six months, the relations between Pakistan and the US have gone through lots of ups and downs. Pakistan is now clearly looking to change its foreign policy and the civil and military establishments have realized that they must get out of the so-called
war against terror.

While addressing to a huge public gathering, Zardari expressed that the Western countries are going through a lean patch themselves and they are not in a position to help Pakistan’s economy. In this situation, Zardari feels that the US and other countries
have no right to dictate terms to Pakistan and the government will do what is in the best interest of the country.

Zardari said, “Your own economies are in trouble. Should I care for the children of my country or look after your interests? We have decided not to join any ‘theatre of war’ which has nothing to do with us.”

The President, who also happens to be the Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), took the credit for changing Pakistan’s foreign policy, which was tilted in favour of America since 2001.

Zardari feels that the country had to pay a huge price because of a dictator, who threw Pakistan in the war of terror, which was never Pakistan’s war.

"It is only under a democratic government that Pakistan finally stood up to demand respect from the United States and to do what the dictator with all his military might could not – evacuate the Shamsi airbase", he added.
