How PTV brainwashes illiterate voters

There is no denying the fact that media plays a great part, or perhaps the entire part in this era, in forming and deforming public opinions about a particular political system, and its effectiveness gets intensified when the media consumers are devoid of
insight. This is what Pakistan Television, the stated-owned broadcaster, is doing in these days.
As seventy percent of our population resides in rural or sub-urban areas where cable or dish channels hardly reach, but PTV, being a terrestrial network, has access in every nook and corner of the country. You are living in a desert, you need nothing except
a TV set and you will be having PTV transmission. But, unfortunately, the strongest and widest media is badly misusing this advantage.
As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), under the leadership of the cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan, has warmed up the political atmosphere in the country with slogans of ‘Change’ and ‘Revolution’, the traditional political forces and the ruling government
have also geared up to counter this movement; and PTV is helping lending a great hand to them in their mission.
Watching PTV NEWS transmission, you will be stunned to find programmes filled with anti-PTI and anti-Imran propaganda. Day in day out, the biased journalists and pseudo analysts outpour venom against Khan and his party. Apart from finding out illogical faults
in the party, they also put a number of black spots on his immaculate character.
The aim of this blame game is nothing except making the illiterate, ignorant and silly voters realise that the PTI is the worst ever political party in the history of the country and if they vote for it, they will have to face the music. What nonsense!
The ruling government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is vehemently using the PTV to outplay its potential opponent which has rang alarm bells across the conventional political corridors of the nation.
The result of this propaganda is strong. If you meet a person, whose media exposure is merely confined to the PTV, he will show a lot of antipathy against Khan and the PTI. Deplorable is the bitter fact that our people, despite having endured sufferings
of years, are still determined to support the dynastical politics, thanks to the influence of the PTV.
This situation is too pathetic and harmful for the future of Pakistan. If any of the traditional political party is elected, we shall get ruined; and this is likely to happen if Khan’s message is not understood by seventy percent of the voters.
Private media needs to come up and save the future of Pakistan, spreading cable networks in by rural areas and telling the public all factual stories. It is a very critical juncture which may make or break the nation for ever. The time is short, but the
task is mammoth. Despite all odds, I strongly believe that the private TV channels have enough revenues at their helm to do this. They can do this event in a month if they want. It is not just one-sided benefit. By expanding their networks, the media owners
will get more advertising profit. Thus, they will be earning more coupled with struggling for the long-term betterment of the nation.
